The Irish government has prohibited HHC through its Misuse of Drugs Act which will take effect on July 29th 2025 to ban all HHC product production and distribution.

Health authorities made this decision because HHC products through vaping and edible and oil consumption have proven dangerous for young people’s mental health in Limerick and throughout Ireland. Irish Examiner

The research involved 2,300 participants who demonstrated that vape products represented 85% of HHC consumption while edible products made up 34% of the total. Irish Examiner Users experienced anxiety alongside panic attacks and dissociation and dizziness as their most common adverse effects but some individuals developed hallucinations or psychotic episodes.

Multiple experts throughout the previous months demonstrated that HHC spread rapidly among young people because it remained unregulated by law and many students thought it was safer than street cannabis.

The government together with mental health organizations demand expanded educational programs and prevention measures and support services which should focus on schools and community areas.
Parents should maintain open discussions about drug dangers including HHC while teaching their children to seek professional help when they experience mental health issues.
